TOM Killick is bracing himself for life without two of his star players as Ian Richardson and Trefor Smith ponder their Poole Town futures.

The decisions of both the central defender and tricky winger are out of the Poole manager's hands, however, with work commitments set to take them out of the area.

Dolphins skipper Richardson, who enjoyed a brilliant season for the Tatnam outfit, has just qualified as a teacher, which could lead to him working up to about 65 miles from Poole.

And student Smith is hoping to secure a work placement year in London.

"They are two very integral members of the team," admitted Killick.

"But it's one of those things where you can't get too disappointed. They are issues that we can't really have any control over."

Killick has acted in an attempt to fill the hole that would be left by Richardson's departure by approaching Hamworthy United's talismanic captain Nathan Walker.

"I had a word with Nathan but I don't think he's going to come," Killick told the Daily Echo.

Killick, a top non-league forward during his playing days, has made no secret of his desire to attract a quality goalscorer to Tatnam. And the Poole boss has been talking to a number of players about a move.

One man who Killick wants to lure to the club is Dan Taylor, a member of the relegated Ringwood Town squad.

While another player definitely returning to Tatnam is Dave Sturgess, who has re-signed for Poole after a brief spell with Wimborne.

Meanwhile, Magpies player-boss Christer Warren is already busy "laying the foundations" for next season's promotion push.

The former Cherries midfielder, fresh from his side's Wessex League Cup triumph last weekend, has begun talks with potential recruits.

A number of names are being linked with a move to Cuthbury, with experienced midfielder Lloyd Webber, who joined Bashley from Gosport Borough in February, apparently being lined up.

But Warren, who did not confirm any definite signings, said: "I've spoken to a lot of people, as everyone has. I'm just trying to see what's going to happen with regards to our team.

"We've signed a few from the team we had last season already. We're hopeful we'll sign most of our boys but we've got question marks over a couple."
