FANCY driving to work in your electric super car before heading off to lunch at Bournemouth's new café in the sky?

These are just some of the ideas that Bournemouth schoolchildren came up with after being asked how the town should look in the future.

The youngsters, aged between six and ten years old, from St Michael's School, worked with artist Jeff Pigott to create their visions for Bournemouth and help Bournemouth Borough Council promote its Town Centre Master Vision.

The children also imagined that the Bournemouth of the future would look more like an American city with skyscrapers.

And they also thought that in the future the town would have a giant art gallery, a fountain with a hole in it to catch rainwater, a museum of world culture out at sea and an underwater hotel.

The drawings of around 80 children are being displayed on two town centre billboards unveiled yesterday.

Cllr John Beesley, deputy leader of Bourne-mouth Borough Council, praised the children's "eye-catching artwork".

He added: "We were so impressed with the care and imagination these children used to design a town for their future.

"Over the past few months we've been inundated with ideas from the public for inclusion in the Town Centre Vision.

"These pictures by children at St Michael's School are being considered alongside those ideas to help us ensure the vision meets the needs of young people."

Head teacher of St Michael's School Bob Kennedy said: "The artist Jeff Pigott did a fantastic job of capturing the children's enthusiasm and imagination.

"Given that the young people of Bournemouth are our future, looking at the posters makes you realise what exciting times lie ahead."

Bournemouth Borough Council is preparing plans to form a town centre regeneration partnership.

The plans, which involve the private sector, could see hundreds of millions of pounds invested in the town.

It hopes to announce and consult on the draft vision this summer.
