Rugby triumphs over football!
 |
| Ian Botham |
RUGBY scored a narrow triumph over football as stars from the world of sport came out in force for the Legends Charity Golf Classic at Remedy Oak yesterday.
The event - sponsored by the Hendy Group and Merlo UK - was part of the Sir Ian Botham Charity Golf Series and raised more than £30,000 for Leukaemia Research and Children's Wish.
And former Wales international rugby star Jonathan Davies pipped ex-Southampton footballer Matt Le Tissier to the first prize.
Davies's Remedy Oak team, which included Dan Riddle, Russell Burtenshaw and David Sanderson, chalked up 94 Stableford points to run out victors by the narrowest of margins.
They held off Le Tissier's Merlo UK team of John Iles, Jason Cunningham and Mick Donovan by a solitary point.
Le Tissier's men claimed runners-up spot on countback from another Remedy Oak team, which included rugby ace Sean Fitzpatrick, Adrian Jones, Adgar Jones and Bill Riddle.
A host of sporting celebrities took part including Botham, Allan Lamb, John Francome, Jimmy Case, Mike Catt, Kriss Akabusi, Phil Babb and Matt Dawson.
