JO AND CO
STAR: Joe Partington
STAR: Joe Partington

KEVIN Bond has emphasised his commitment to youth by promoting rising stars Joe Partington, Ryan Pryce and Josh McQuoid to the first-team ranks.

The trio have all been offered their first professional contracts after impressing boss Bond and his coaching staff during their apprenticeships.

Their elevation represents a major success for Joe Roach's youth department, which has now yielded no fewer than four graduates from the 2006 intake.

Partington, Pryce and McQuoid, who all made their full debuts this season, join fellow recruit Sam Vokes who also finishes his education at Brockenhurst College in the summer.

Bond told the Daily Echo: "Joe sees these players every day so I have gone along with his recommendations. Eddie Howe and Rob Newman have also been involved in the decision-making process and I am happy to back their judgement.

"All three of them are being offered contracts due to their undoubted potential. They know they have still got lots to do but they have all made sufficient progress to warrant a further opportunity to carve out a career. If they keep showing the attitude they have displayed as apprentices then they have all got a decent chance."

Salisbury-based Pryce, 18, was blooded when Cherries were in the middle of a goalkeeping crisis in January, while Portsmouth-born Partington came off the bench to grab a dramatic late equaliser during Cherries' memorable 2-1 victory at Swansea last month. McQuoid, who hails from Lymington, made his full debut against Tranmere on Easter Monday after a succession of substitute appearances.

Bond added: "Ryan has done extremely well after coming in at a very diffiuclt time.

"He held his nerve incredibly well for someone so young and I could not have been more pleased with him. He's improved a great deal and I hope he continues to do so.

"Joe has trained with us for the past few months and has flourished. He's become more relaxed in the first-team atmosphere and has looked comfortable among them. He's a nice size and shape and we're hoping for some significant progress from him next season.

"Josh is one of those unpredictable and pacey forwards who has shown he can do things other players can't. As Max Gradel showed for us this season, you need people who can do something a little bit different. Josh's development and improvement has warranted being given further time to show he can make the grade."

Good to finally see some common sense coming out of Dean Court, we have perhaps one of the best set of youngsters outside of the prem, great to see these lads given their chance, I still think we need a couple more senior pro's but you could not ask for better youth players to join the pro ranks, well done to all involved in this decision.

Well, well, well! Funny how this article gets published after the Bond article refering to "loanees" earlier in the week! Anyway great to hear words like these from the club. To be honest this is our only chance to survive by nuturing future stars that will eventually earn us dosh. Crewe being the model we should follow.

Great news re the youngsters they have all taken their chances well when called upon.
If the budget allows it also have a look at Danny Seabourne 20 year old captain of Exeter City.Great potential and can play anywhere along backline and in midfield.
With a smallish squad next season it pays to have a few versatile players available.
With regard to the Darren Anderton situation can I make the following observations. When he signed AFCB were in 8th position in league one. This season we had only won two league matches when he got injured in November. Results started to improve when Danny Hollands took over that area.Anderton came back into a winning team towards the end of the season.Although he played well in the first half he faded in the second period. At Walsall the pidgeon in our goalmouth looked more energetic during the second 45 before Anderton was substituted.
We must also remember that even if we sign Anderton on a pay as you play scheme we have to allow for that in the playing budget, reducing other options. If he is injured and we need to get in a short term replacement the player we want may not be available.
So on balance do we re-sign an injury prone player who may give us 20 games or do we look for another Danny Hollands type or wide player who can give us say 40 games and be better value?

Kenno interesting comment. What value do you place on experience. I wonder what affect Ando has had on the development of the younger lads. I would think there is plenty of value in keeping a player of his experience and ability around the club. I am not sure of the finer details of his contract but I would think if he only gets paid when he plays then Bondie would only play him when he is playing good enough. Meanwhile the youngsters I would hope are benefitting greatly from his presence at training etc. I might be wrong but I would be very keen to keep him if he is interested. I'm not comparing myself to any of the lads at AFCB but I do remember as a young player out here in OZ what a learning curve it was playing and training with the senior players (ex British Pros and Oz Internationals)it was amazing what you learnt in a 90 min practice game compared to 3 months training at schoolboy level. Anyhow that's my thoughts.

Oops I forgot. While it is great news that we are signing the youngsters how does it work if we are still in admin and can't actually negotiate and sign the seniors that are out of contract. Hope all this attention does not alert others to there potential at least until we are in a position to profit from them.

Totaly agree with you

Darren Anderton has lived on his name and delivered very little for years.

I would rather invest in our youth than give him a penny.

jem,
thanx for your comments. Experience is of great value.
We should still be well served in that department if Cummins,Bradbury and Moss are still there next year. I am sure their knowledge will rub off on our promising future stars.
As far as attitude, motivaion and leadership is concerned they will do well to just follow the example of Danny Hollands. The progression that Danny has made during the last six months with responsibility thrust upon his young shoulders has been remarkable.

See I disagree, although he isnt 90 mins match fit, his passing, vision and experience is invaluable at this level. Does the fact that he set up a goal at Walsall with a killer pass get forgotten with you Kenno.
Funny how are run of 20 out of 24 points came when Anderton came back. Having been out for 4 and 1/2 months!!

Who I support is relevant especially on a thread about the youth players of AFCB, and they do have one of the best sets of youth players outside the prem, just look at our record in recent years, what the unmentionables do is of no concern to me and to be quite frank I don't give a toss.

If we went out of business I would rather not watch Football at all than watch that lot (come to think of it it amounts to the same thing) This is a site for Bournemouth Supporters to exchange views not a recruitment site for potential scum Supporters

Ok so you dont want to be objective. Carry on posting these stupid comments, cos it makes you look what you obviously are a complete knob.

That academy down the road like it or not has and continues to produce the best youth players in the country FACT. When was the last time AFCB sold a youth player for £10 million??? Volkes is the latest so called star and he will go for max £200K Just try and be realistic. Oh and by the way the useless first team down the road are also a couple of divisions above AFCB

Being a supporter doesn't mean you can be blind to the facts.

I live in Southampton territory and work a mile from their ground and choose to support AFCB but realistically purely because of finance and league standing we cant compete with them. I dont like their club set up but am far more interested in my own club to waste time slagging someone elses off. Live and let live we dont have to like them but lifes too short. Get real

Wasn't Anderton signed by SO'D when we were 8th in League 1?

Then Bond came along and we lost 7 in a row and were in the relegation zone.

Vokes or any other Player for that matter produced by this Club would never go for that kind of money because all the so called big boys who creamed off all the primiership money can afford to hold on to players while the likes of us fall prey to the higher league vultures getting players on the cheap. Oh and that remark about being 2 divisions higher than us is a bit rich as one goal by us and one result against you we would have been in the same Division as you so What you seem to be saying is that producing the best young players in the country enables you to strugglke in the Championship nearly get relagated and selling them for millions gets you into bigger debt than us Well being objective I would have to say we are fine as we are thanks

I agree with all that it would have been intersesting to see what would have happened had we stayed up as we deserved to and they had come down as they deserved to. Alas not to be this Year anyway. But if the other posts are correct thay will produce 15 1o million pound players a Year and soon be winning the Champions League hya ha

AFCB didn't deserve to stay up. Going bust and owing millions to local companies has to be punished. SFC didn't go down because they were 19th, the leage table doesn't lie. No luck involved just a great performance against Sheff U.

Face facts, AFCB are a laughing stock. Fooled by a walter mitty character Wacko Jacko, protracted take over non bids, a pile of scaffolding at one end of the ground called "a stand" Cant even afford a groundsman so you have to borrow one from SFC. Now Bond is claiming Div 2 is the toughest league in the country, you've got fans coming on here claiming you have the best youth players outside of the Prem........for pities sake you couldn't make it up.

AFCB are a shambles, with regret, they will very likely be non league after next season. RIP AFCB
